1. How do I download a Shiur?
Click on "Download Now", then select the lecturer you are interested in
and place a check in the box next to each Shiur you want to order.
2. I downloaded the Shiur. How do I listen to it?
The Shiur you downloaded was in a compressed format (.ZIP) to make it
easier and quicker to download. You must first "decompress" it to
extract the MP3 files. Those files can be imported into your
iTunes/Real Player/ Music Match, or any other program you use to hear
audio files. You can then listen to the Shiur on your computer or
transfer to your MP3 player.
3. What is an MP3 and what is an MP3 player?
MP3 refers to a file format that allows audio files to be compressed
into smaller sized files while still maintaining high sound quality.
This is ideal for internet audio downloads and for storage on an MP3
player.
An MP3 player is a portable device on which you store your MP3 files
(songs/Shiurim, etc.) and listen to them usually through headphones.
4. Can I copy the Shiurim that I downloaded?
Thanks you for asking! Yes and no. All Shiurim on
ShiurimToGo are copyrighted and may not be copied or distributed, except
for the following:
-
You may copy your downloads onto your own MP3 player
-
You may burn a Shiur you downloaded onto a CD for personal use.
-
You may make a backup of all your downloads for your own
protection.
5. Many online sites offer free downloads. Why do you
charge for Torah classes?
Another very good question.
Most Shiurim that are found online for free downloads are recordings
made during public classes. (Ocassionally ShiurimToGo.com will
post such Shiurim free of charge). These are very useful and we
are all grateful to those who post them.
Very often, the lecturers giving the class are paid for the class
that is later posted for free download.
ShiurimToGo is unique in that the classes offered are recorded
expressly for the benefit of our listeners and are NOT recorded in
public classes. The lecturers record the classes in a private
sound controlled environment in order to provide the best quality
Shiurim to our listeners.
It is understood that this is a tremendous commitment on their part
to continuously produce new shiurim and they should be compensated
for their time.
Additionally, in order to provide the vast amount of Shiurim that we
do (currently over 100 Shiurim) ShiurimToGo must incur a large
amount of storage and hosting costs.
